What is the Trust?

The Garelochhead and Portincaple Community Trust has been set up with a view to improving the amenity and quality of life of the people of Garelochhead, Portincaple and the surrounding area.

The Mission Statement displayed below lists the objectives of the Trust when it was set up some five years ago. Since then priorities have changed. Some objectives have been achieved, some have been frustrated, others are still being actively pursued. (See the Aims and Achievements page). We need the support of the community to help us make further progress. Please give us that support.

Who Can Be Members?

All members of the local community are invited to join the Trust and have an input to its activities (See Membership Page). Public meetings are held regularly and there are a number of sub-groups dealing with specific activities. Any member having an interest in a particular activity may volunteer to contribute to the appropriate sub-group

Our Mission Statement

Garelochhead and Portincaple will work together to improve all aspects of community life for the benefit of all. Our goals are to:

  • establish a happy healthy community
  • maintain a sustainable population
  • support current businesses and encourage economic development, with a particular emphasis on tourism
  • maximise the sympathetic use of our existing natural resources
  • improve leisure and social facilities within the area
  • develop youth facilities
  • protect and enhance the local environment- natural and built
  • improve local health care and educational provision
  • establish better transport and pedestrian links throughout the community
  • develop the potential for water recreation and general access to the water
  • protect and enhance our cultural, historical environmental heritage
  • take full advantage of potential benefits that may flow from the creation of Scotland's first National Park
